Discover the work of internationally acclaimed Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama with this major exhibition that spans decades of her artistic practice.

Yayoi Kusama: Mirrored Years demonstrates the enduring force of Yayoi Kusama. Renowned early installations such as Infinity Mirror Room – Phalli’s Field (1965) along with recent immersive environments including Fireflies on the Water (2000) and Clouds (2008) provide insight into the creative energy of this extraordinary artist and her lifelong preoccupation with the perceptual, visual and physical worlds.

Working across different media and forms that include painting, collage, sculpture, installation and film, as well as performance and its documentation, Kusama creates works that reveal a fixation with repetition, pattern and accumulation. Describing herself as an “obsessive artist”, her work is intensely sensual, infused with autobiographical, psychological and sexual content.

Stellar debut for Seventh Wonderland at Swim Fashion Week 2009

Designer Bonnie Coumbe unveiled the Seventh Wonderland Spring Summer 2009/10 swimwear collection in her debut show at Swim Fashion Week today.

Seventh Wonderland cleverly fused their fashion aesthetic with classic swim shapes which were pinnacled by cut out and lace trims, 'lingerie' details, deco prints and a dedication to quality fabrications. Coumbe's extensive background (ex Jets and textile designer for Karolina York) was clear in her execution of a tight collection of wearable statement swimwear.

The collection hinted at 70's styling, opulence and romance with a nod to Biba through distinctive cuts and detailing and a focus on statement one pieces which included laser cut techniques, crochet and panelling. Seventh Wonderland showed swimwear as outerwear teaming swim with fashion pieces - their truly modern take on 'swimwear as fashion' for those who aspire to wear unique & beautifully constructed pieces from the beach to the bar.

The Seventh Wonderland label was launched by Coumbe with partner Carlos Aviles in July 2008 at the Miami Swim Show, the show today was their second collection and concreted their reputation as a new talent to watch.

Following the show the collection had caught the eye of the Macys (USA) and Coco (Japan) buyers who are currently viewing the collection to buy. Seventh Wonderland's impressive stockist list already encapsulates leading boutiques locally including Fat, Tuchuzy, Pretty Dog, Atlas, Bessie Head and I Heart in New York.

Seventh Wonderland will show again at Australian Fashion Week at the end of April.

Little Hero opens the showroom door to an inspired new swimwear collection from Sydney: Seventh Wonderland

Designer Bonnie Coumbe brings extensive experience to Seventh Wonderland to create a collection fusing fashion and function seen in her meticulously crafted cuts peppered with distinctive prints. 

Coumbe previously designed for Jets and her background as a textile designer for Karolina York has seen her prints featured internationally from Paris to New York - she applies her hand created original print techniques to each Seventh Wonderland collection using Italian fabrications to ensure quality. 

Seventh Wonderland embodies art, opulence & romance, while the details like ruffles on the '9pm' one piece swimsuit provide a signature which is just as perfect to wear as fashion for a night on the town as it is for the beach - a truly modern take on 'swimwear as fashion' for those who aspire to wear unique & beautifully constructed pieces.  

Bonnie Coumbe works alongside partner Carlos Aviles and together they unveiled the Seventh Wonderland debut collection (as attached) at the Miami Swim Show in July 2008 to great acclaim. In its first season, Seventh Wonderland has secured accounts in boutiques nationally including Fat, Tuchuzy, Pretty Dog, Atlas and Bessie Head. The collection also caught the attention of artists Goldfrapp, Peaches and Australia’s own Cassette Kids who have all worn their pieces.

P.A.M Pops Up

We are jumping frogs and smiling gleefully over here as we announce a welcome new addition to the Little Hero showroom by the name of P.A.M.

Cult Melbourne label P.A.M is the creation of Misha Hollenbach and Shauna T. aka Perks And Mini.  The dynamo duo have made a distinctive mark on a global scale (the P.A.M label has an established and loyal following throughout Japan, Asia, Europe and USA) with their much-loved interpretation of fashion and continual forays into their own warped creative universe (art, music and all things 'pop').

For Winter 2009 men's, women's, shoes and accessories; P.A.M embrace the spirit of modern and ancient history with Magic Messages, a collection of high-impact, high visibility pieces live and direct from another planet.

Channelling messages of positivity and mentalism -- a visit to 1958 New York societies where magic mushrooms gatherings took place and activities of drinking MM tea -- communication with deities and Mexican Hill Gods was a highly influential ritual that played a part in the visualisation of Magic Messages.  As was cycling (Around and around and around...) collage and neo-geometrics.

P.A.M's recurring fascination with moments of historical significance are rediscovered and translated; Aztecs; Ancients; South America; African Dance and Rhythm and the Psyilocybe Mexicana are prominent throughout in the form of bold geometric prints symbolizing Ziggurats and ancient man's efforts to get closer to a greater realm.

Magic Messages reincarnates ideas and manifests itself as acid bright colours seen in P.A.M's iconic surreal graphics and psychedelic oil prints. Modelled for long days, party nights, beaches, the ocean and the sun, P.A.M are searching for the Magic of times past, and are checking their messages on their 'future-phones'!

Girls Against Boys

The Yen Young Women of the Year Awards were created to acknowledge and support the achievements of women 35 years and under who are doing amazing things across various fields – including business, fashion, sport, music and the community, among others.

The gracious Anna Plunkett from Romance Was Born accepted the award in the fashion category. All incredible in their own right, Therese Rawsthorne and Tina Kalivas were the other nominees.

Over the road on the same night was the GQ Men of the Year awards of which Ben Pollitt of Friedrich Gray was nominated for the breakthrough artist category.

It was suggested by a particularly clever friend of Romance Was Born that the women and men of the awards meet at the end of the night and then it would be just like a prom. We made it happen and were particularly impressed with the staff at the Ivy who let us take over a substantial area of their cloakroom to attend the most surreal (pool) party since 'The Party.'

Cham Cham a go go

A stellar line up at the Chambord Shine Awards was on display on Wednesday the 19th November with 10 designers selected by French liqueur Chambord to create one of pieces for auction with all proceeds going to the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer charity.

Antipodium, Friedrich Gray and Romance Was Born were in the mix alongside designers including Jessie Hill and winner Carl Kapp.

Chambord spared no expense with Cham Cham martinis and champagne cocktails as well as the most delicious cheesecake we've ever tasted! Fun and charitable we enjoyed the community spirit amongst the 10 designers who all put their own signature spin on the Chambord brief to create their one off dress.

Geoffrey J. Finch wins SOYA Award

Geoffrey J. Finch of Antipodium was named the fashion winner of the Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards.

The SOYA Awards honour young talent under 30 in the areas of music, photography, film, industrial design and visual arts along with fashion and aim to provide mentors who are leaders in the field. Nominees for fashion this year also included Dion Lee and Reiss Radvanyi.

The very modest Finch was presented with a mentorship from Peter Morrissey, $5000 as well as $5000 worth of travel with Qantas. The voucher would have come in handy as Finch jetted to London the next day to start work on the spring summer collection to be shown at next years Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.

This is a double whammy for Little Hero as last year's winner was Ben Pollitt of Friedrich Gray (pictured above with Geoffrey J. Finch).
