Tara Marynowsky
'Lady in Egg', 2009
watercolour on paper
40 x 42cm (framed size)
We took a little trip to the Chalk Horse Gallery the other day to check out the joint forces of talented local and international artists Tara Marynowsky, Tim Moore and Danny Morse- Childhood cartoon heroes stripped down to the skinny then intricately embroidered onto handmade linens, kooky characters in wild and wonderful watercolours and boldly painted landscapes provided a vivid but dreamlike visual experience that didn't disappoint.
Sydney born and educated Tara Marynowski's gently mesmerising watercolours featured strange fairy tale figures, blank faced characters, sad and dark faces which spoke volumes of a melancholic, nostalgic carnivale. Quite on the opposite end of the creative spectrum came silk embroideries on hand made materials, the delicacy of the embroidery being strikingly contradictory to the subject matter itself, in which Tim Moore playfully combines naturists (nudists for those of you who don't know!) with cartoon icons, not even danger mouse in his birthday suit could escape the needle and thread! The english artist Danny Morse uses acrylic paints to compose moody, colour rich scenes for your viewing pleasure.
This little melting pot of creativity gives rise to a versatile appeal and there's bound to be something there that you'll fall in love with, open till the 6th of June and totally local- Surry Hills, it is most definitely worth a look so get your boots on and get over there!
